Athena Gear has been providing quality women’s athletic clothing since 2003 when Tara Hannigan saw a need to provide clothing for female athletes that focused on proper fit.Tara turned her love of sewing and creating into a full-time business and o
riginally started selling her athletic clothing creations on a circuit of tradeshows. Prior to her starting to produce ladies’ athletic clothing, Tara had noticed that there were issues with athletic clothing just not fitting properly. Women and girls have many different body types and Athena Gear clothing was developed with that in mind.
Tara believes she’s perfected the fit of Athena Gear’s athletic and yoga clothing and that her company is a leader in that area. “We’re focusing entirely on athletic clothing for women and girls,” Tara said. “Our athletic clothing is appropriate for women of all ages from young girls to grandmothers.”
With a full range of sizes, it’s easy for Athena Gear customers of all ages to stay with Athena Gear’s yoga and athletic clothing all their lives. “We were the first women’s clothing company out there to also design girls’ athletic clothing,” Tara added. “And we’re still one of the few to be doing it.”
All of Athena Gear’s athletic and yoga clothing is Canadian-made, a fact that Tara is proud of. She started production at home and has had to move to larger Canadian clothing manufacturers as the company has grown, but she intends to keep production of Athena Gear’s athletic clothing in Canada.
