What is Softgear?

Softgear is a base layer women’s athletic clothing. It was designed by Athena Gear for female athletes to use next to their skin and it has a number of properties that make it desirable for athletes, no matter what the sport or level of training.

First, Softgear is made of a breathable fabric that dries quickly and wicks moisture away from a woman’s skin as she exercises. This makes the clothing much more comfortable and keeps you cooler as you exercise.

The fabric is flexible and non-binding, so it doesn’t impede a movement. The fabric in Softgear is also non-chafing, which is particularly helpful when it is worn under equipment when playing hockey or ringette, or protecting women from rough outer fabrics.

Fit is one of the most important aspect of women’s athletic clothing. Athena Gear has paid a great deal of attention to this aspect of Softgear and all its women’s sportswear. You can be satisfied knowing that Athena Gear’s full women’s clothing line has been designed by women, for women.

Softgear is very soft, some of the comments we’ve had are that it “feels like wearing nothing.” Of course Softgear can be worn as a base layer, but also works just as well as an attractive, fashionable outer layer itself.

In addition to all those great qualities, Softgear has a few more tricks up its sleeve. All Softgear has anti-odour and anti-bacterial properties so your athletic clothing won’t smell like the locker room after you’re done. Softgear also provides UV protection and is biodegradable.

At the moment, Softgear is made from man-made fibres, but we are exploring options to have lines of Softgear made from natural fibres and fabrics. We’ll let you know once we have them ready!
